With a massive global audience, TikTok is a staple of pop culture. A place where users create and discover viral videos. Globally, the number of TikTok users is in millions. Many teenagers or even younger. A critical audience that’s paying close attention.
As we know, the USA was going to ban TikTok. But according to a new update, the USA government decided not to remove the app from the app store. Here is why.
So, We have some very big news on TikTok. TikTok will not be disappearing from the app store in the USA.
TikTok’s partnership and Trump’s words
TikTok’s partnership with oracle and Walmart receiving tentative approval from president trump. Allowing the Beijing-based app to avoid a US shutdown for now. Trump said, “I have given the deal my blessing. If they get it done that’s great. If they don’t, that’s okay too but it’s a great deal for America”. According to the deal, the president wants the company involved to put $5 billion into an “education fund” on what he calls “Real patriotic American history”.
TikTok’s US general manager, Vanessa Pappas, posted a video in which she said, “We are here for the long run. Continue to share your voice here, and let’s stand for TikTok”. She added: “Millions of Americans who use TikTok every day, bringing their creativity and joy into our daily lives. We’ve heard your outpouring of support and we want to say thank you. We’re not planning on going anywhere.”
TikTok owned by the Chinese company Bytedance hopes it will maintain and expand the global headquarters in the US. While bringing 25,000 jobs Bytedance would maintain ownership with Walmart and oracle holding a 20% share. Walmart would also allow users to shop Walmart online through TikTok. With oracle taking over its American operations to safeguard users’ data. oracle’s chairman announcing it will operate TikTok’s systems in the oracle cloud. a major step following concern about users’ data being shared with the Chinese government.
Trump on privacy of users by TikTok
About users’ data and privacy, Trump said, “It will have nothing to do with China. It will be totally secure.” But some experts are still concerned. It’s not clear how American information is totally secure. It’s not clear how they couldn’t just do this by going public and becoming an American company.
We know that in China there is something called civil-military fusion. According to that, any innovation, any technology that comes into China first must be used by the military. And that the Chinese communist party can demand and get any information that it asks for on any company. So Bytedance, the Chinese company which is the parent of TikTok they’re going to be owning 80 percent of “TikTok global” which will be the new name. So, it’s not clear how they are going to be able to put the data of American citizens on one point in one place. And make it impossible for the Chinese communist party to access!
